"One Year Later"
It's been nearly a year since the new addition opened, and the library's Board of Directors would like to invite everyone to stop by on Sunday, October 12, from 2 - 5 to see what is happening at the library "One Year Later."

Whether you are a regular library visitor, haven't been in for a while, or have never walked through our doors, please join us in celebrating our physical, service and programatic growth.

One of the many grants we have recently received has given us new computers.  Come see what is available.  The library's I.T. staff member, Steve Taylor, will be on hand to answer questions about the computer services now available to patrons.

No matter what your age, there will be something for everyone:
Tim Lockman will be back to entertain us with his guitar.
     Activities for the kids.
Cake, cookies and punch will be served.
Gift basket will be given away.
Great conversation with old and new friends.

Hope to see you then.

The library will be closed on Tuesday, October 7 for staff training.

Thank you for your understanding.
New Computers
Thanks to the sponsorship of Representative Bob Pritchard, the library recently received a $10,000 technology grant from Illinois' Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
The funds have been used to replace four outdated patron computers, to add four additional patron stations and to increase the library catalogs from one to two.  The new computers will allow for better service to all our readers and technology users.
Remaining funds will be used for wireless access and other technology needs as written into the grant.
Stop in to check out the updated tech area, and then write a big thank you to Rep. Pritchard for thinking of us.  His address is 2600 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
Candy Jar Count
Congratulations to Dorothy Barth for coming closest to count without going over on the Bit-O-Honey jar challenge.  Dorothy was within 6 on her count, but we are not giving out the candy amount yet because another count challenge (actually, 2) has just started.

Stop by the library and drop your guess into the jar for Dubble Bubble pieces and Spree packets.  Winners will be selected on October 25, just in time to hand out to those trick or treaters.
Games Galore in the Library

Need a place to cool off?  Stop by the library - we're more than books.
With 2 dozen board games, cards and puzzles, there is plenty of family and friend fun.  Ages two through adult, with plenty of teen games.

Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read

Malta Library patrons are again being asked to participate in our annual Banned Books Week challenge by reading a book from the ALA's listing of materials that have been banned or challenged.  Books must be read during September/October 2008.  Readers will have their names placed into a drawing for a leatherbound edition of a banned/challenged classic.

Annually celebrated the last week in September, this year's event takes place September 26 - October 3.  The library will have a display at the fireplace during these two months.

Must register to vote by October 7
Did you know library staff can register you to vote or help you with a change of address?   We can also show you how to use the internet for aiding in making informed decisions on who to vote for.

Voting is just one of the freedoms so many have fought for in the past and continue to do so, today.

Exercise your freedom, and don't forget - educated voters are wise voters.
