What I'm Reading Now
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah I so enjoyed the author's story, Winter Garden, thought I would try another of her books. While the story was great, the writing was terrible. Firefly Lane is the street upon which two young girls live and become lifelong friends. One grows up to be the most powerful newswoman of her time while the other chooses marriage and her children.
The story is so compelling, I had to finish the book, although it was often difficult due to the lack of Hannah's technical ability in this earlier book of her career. I do recommend this read, however. Actually, it would make a great made-for-TV movie.
Before the Season Ends by Linore Rose Burkard This delightful, easy read takes place in 1812 London during the time of Season, when the debutantes come out in an effort to the attract a proposal from one of the society/royalty gentlemen.
In an effort to keep 19 year old Arianna from marrying the 60 year old rector (she is certain God is calling her to wed into the pastorship), her parents feel she should be sent from the states to live in England with her father's sister. Of course, she falls in love, but he does not share her beliefs.
Another great Christian Fiction read.
